How did I do it? Well, it took a lot of precise planning, liaising, meetings…
All in all, tons of effort.

I first came up with a proposal and a project in mind: “HDB Flat’s Extreme Makeover” to inspire fellow young Singaporeans to invest in a face-lift for their houses as well.

Then I sifted through brands for like-minded parties, pitching to them on this big idea.

Within 2 months, together with my Interior Design Firm, BluprinID, we managed to complete our 3D interior perspectives (according to my style) and got down to work with the awesome sponsors!

I wanted something with a fusion- Modern, artsy, urban, yet classic…
All at the same time:

BEFORE FACE LIFT-
This is how our newly acquired 5-room resale flat actually looked like:

It was in a horrifying state. The ceilings and floorings were all tearing apart, probably due to the age of the place itself. Needless to speak about the furnitures or household appliances even. Typical HDB flat, they say.

But why do we have to submit to being typical?

May I welcome you to my brand new home!

You’ve probably noticed that I had my entire floor layered with the high end resilient (aka H.E.R.F) flooring from Evorich, which is a PERFECT substitute of the conventional laminate and parquet flooring.

BUT HOW?
Isn’t laminate flooring unsuitable for living room nor kitchen as it’s non-waterproof?!

My mum had the exact same concern when I told her about my decision…
But WORRY NOT.

This amazing H.E.R.F flooring comes with the most highly sought after features (despite it’s wood-like appearance):

  • 100% Waterproof; It is suitable for most residential and commercial areas  such as the bedrooms and living and also wet areas that are highly exposed to moisture and high traffic such as kitchen and basements.
  • 100% Termite Proof; This is not wood at all! It doesn’t attract termites nor other wood decaying agents and it’s even suitable for areas nearby forested area.
  • Lifetime Warranty; 10-year commercial, lifetime residential warranty

** I’ve tried and tested it personally, by pouring an entire pail of water over the floor. It’s indeed 100% water proof!

The main focus of my living room has to be the feature wall.
It doesn’t only look rustic, it FEELS rustic!

I had initially wanted to go for the conventional “bricks wall” that’s frequently seen in interior designs, however, you know how much I dislike conforming to the norm and be like everybody else…

Fortunately, I found this unique wallpaper design from The Wall Story, which fits the one-of-a-kind urban rustic look that I was seeking for:

My personal corner in the living room; “Mini home bar”, where I would indulge in some me-time or invite my friends over for a simple hangout :)

I absolutely adore the chrome outlook of this bar counter, especially so that it matches my other furnitures e.g. the coffee table, TV cabinet and dining table!

Lightings play a huge part when it comes to setting the mood right. So we picked this simple artsy hanging lights for the bar, to showcase the area when in used, but also ensuring that it doesn’t take away the limelight.

Because…
Right next to it, is our magnificent dinning hall! Major pleased with it’s outcome.
All specially handpicked; from the dining table, to the chairs, the chandelier and even the featured wall!

Which girl doesn’t fancy chandelier? Not me for sure.
But I didn’t want no average ones, of course.

This 2D monochrome candle chandelier’s just unparalleled. It caught my eyes immediately at Litelab Lighting!

Since we’re on this theme, how can we forget the mother of all “Monochrome”?!
The classic Chanel’s so irresistible…

I got my dining table exclusively customised in chrome, with quilted leather chairs  😉

Most HDB flats have the concept of combined living/dining room.

Hence, to set it apart, we went a little bold this time- infusing the Alfresco cladding from Haus Furnishing onto the dining area’s wall. The gorgeous golden hue of colours painted on these coconut shells made my obsession for Alfresco-style work, even for indoors!

I like my kitchen simple and clean cut!

Most importantly, durable.

So I specifically had Evershine, the inner space surfacing specialist to construct my kitchen top for me. Evershine’s Solid Surface is high heat and scratch resistant, in addition to its unique seamless joint.

Not only does it compliment my kitchen cabinets, it has a high tolerance to impact and does not damage easily. Solid Surface Materials is also non-porous, thus, bacteria, molds and moisture cannot penetrate its surface! Haven’t we had enough of old wooden cabinets with water leakage and scratches on the top?

I’ve found my solution:

I can’t reemphasise enough on how unsightly are the common electrical outlets.
Sometimes, I wish that I could just cover them up. Now, I don’t have to anymore!

This is definitely worth showing off. Eubiq is indeed, the world’s most flexible power outlet system.
Because not only does it look fantabulous, I could adjust it with a simple turn and be afraid of electric shock no more:

Main washroom, in-line with the concept:

Back to the living room~

My beautiful curtains by J&B Curtain Designs softened up the entire appearance of my house. It gives off an illusion of elongated windows, at the same time, concealing the boring looking glass panels.
(A tip to making your HDB flat look like a private apartment)

Behind the curtains… It’s my ultimate LIFE SAVIOUR- DIY Insect Shield!!!

It seriously keeps ALL PESTS away from my house! Not even kidding. I’ve used to resort to killing them insects every other day in the past. Now, I just laugh at the silly moth and bug, fluttering outside, with no chance to enter AT ALL.

BEST OF ALL? It does not obstruct your view! This is how it looks from my view:

That’s all for today, on my living room and kitchen!

    Your place looks amazing.

Apart from the customized dining table and leather chairs, how much would be the cost for the kitchen, washroom and the living room cost alone ?

Probably enough to do up the entire house for a budget renovation i guess.
